Aromatherapists use diffusers as a means of activating and dispersing aromas from a range of essential oils. Many people believe these essential oils have calming, soothing effects that can be beneficial to mental health. Diffusers come in a variety of shapes and sizes and use different mechanisms to activate and sustain aromas.
Lamp Rings and Fan Diffusers
Lamp rings fit around normal household bulbs. They have a creviced lip around the diameter, allowing you to pour in your favorite aroma or essential oil. Once the bulb heats up, the scent activates and spreads throughout the room. Fan diffusers work in conjunction with an absorbent pad, which you soak in an essential oil or fragrance and place inside the fan. The aroma spreads when the fan is turned on.
Electric Diffusers and Nebulizers
Electric diffusers combine heat with a small mechanised fan to slowly and subtly disperse a specific aroma around a room. Nebuilizers, in contrast, break down essential oils into tiny molecules before spreading the scent throughout a room. Due to the molecular breakdown, the scent is absorbed and dispersed more efficiently.
Clay Diffusers
Clay diffusers normally come as decorative clay pots that make attractive displays around the home. The bottom glazed portion of the pot contains the essential oils. Once the bottom half has been filled, cork the pot. The aroma permeates through the clay materials and spreads into the atmosphere. Clay diffusers are cheap, but it can be difficult to control the aroma levels that fill the air.
Candle Diffusers
Candle diffusers are built on top of a small bowl that contains essential oils. Once the candle ignites, the heat causes the essential oils to evaporate and distribute the aroma into the atmosphere. Although the heat is efficient at activating the oils, it may also destroy molecules in the process, making the aromas less powerful. Candle diffusers are available in many different styles and colors, tailored to a range of decors.
