Mesulid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication used in the treatment of symptomatic osteoarthritis, post-op dental pain and swelling and extra-articular disorders. The medication works by quickly absorbing into the gastrointestinal tract while simultaneously stimulating the nerve endings responsible for pain. When this happens, the medication significantly reduces pain for users. As with most medications, there are a number of side effects associated with use.
Common Side Effects
Some common side effects associated with using Mesulid include skin rash, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, edema, heartburn, abdominal cramping, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and epigastric discomfort. While these are considered the most common side effects associated with using this medication, they affect only a small number of users.
Severe Side Effects
A number of severe side effects also are associated with using this medication. Some of these side effects include severe fatigue, pale stools, anorexia, severe nausea, flu-like symptoms, dark urine, yellowing of the skin and eyes, pruritus, gastrointestinal hemorrhage and hepatitis. These side effects are rare and do not affect a large amount of users.
Safety Information
Mesulid has been known to cause increased dizziness and drowsiness, and users should not to operate any type of machinery (including automobiles) while using this medication. If you have a history of gastrointestinal disease, you should take Mesulid with extreme caution and under the instruction of a medical professional. Liver enzyme levels should be monitored approximately every 3 weeks, so consult with your doctor about regular checkups.
Considerations
Always use Mesulid exactly as your doctor prescribed it and never in dosages that exceed what the label recommends. Never use this medication in conjunction with another medication or with any type of depressants (including alcohol). It is unknown whether Mesulid is excreted in breastmilk; use it with extreme caution if you are pregnant or nursing.
