Use Of Colors In Praise Dance

The impact of any art form relies heavily on how well the message is executed. Song choice, in addition to selecting the proper colors during dances of praise, can help those watching become better receptors of the spirit.

Message and Ministry

Just as to everything there is a season, to every color there is a reason, or a meaning. When looking at this in a spiritual context, choosing the right colors can help a praise dancer to enhance ministering to his audience. The right combination of song, movement and color can make a significant impact. Before deciding on a color, have a song in mind. Within almost every gospel song, the lyrics harmonize with a certain color, so it is important to know exactly what the song chosen to dance to speaks about.

Praise dance, just like the choir, is a ministry. Ministry is about getting your message across to an audience. By wearing a color that reflects the meaning or lyrical content of a song, you will enhance your dance and minister to your audience on another level.

Meanings of Colors and Song

Purple means "royalty." When dancing to music that has lyrics in which God is recognized as a king, lord or ruler of heaven, use purple.

Red signifies "blood" or more specifically the blood that was shed by Christ to save humanity from sin. Choose red, when a song of praise talks about how Jesus died, or how his blood washes away sin.

Black reflects "death of the old self." Using this color is especially powerful when dancing to music that talks about turning away from sin or wickedness to embrace a life with God.

Blue is the color of healing. Blue---any shade---complements praise dance to music that talks about the healing power of God.

White stands for "worship or holiness." Dances to songs about the holiness of God warrant a color that reflects purity.

Gold is the color of glory. Glorifying God is the essence of praise. Use this color when dancing to music that glorifies or explains how wonderful God is.

Green represents life or a new life. Use this color to dance to songs that talk about eternal life, a life with God, or some kind of renewal.

Pink or fuchsia symbolizes joy. Wear this color when dancing to songs that talk about "unspeakable joy," joy that overflows, or how happy one can be with God.

A rainbow symbolizes God's promise. Use a rainbow, or have each dancer wear a color of the rainbow when dancing to songs that talk about the promises of God.
