Not only can you use sea salt on your food, but you can use it in your bath to help with health issues as well.
Hippocrates discovered the medicinal and therapeutic properties of sea water after noticing that it helped to heal injuries on the hands of fisherman. Sea salt is becoming more popular due to its reported therapeutic benefits. Sea salt contains more than 100 minerals. High concentrations of magnesium found in sea salt and magnesium have been known to maintain skin hydration and reduce inflammation. Sea salt can be ingested, used as a body scrub and even applied as a bath salt.
Psoriasis
Dr. J. Arndt conducted a study on Dead Sea Salt and its effects on 50 psoriasis patients. The patients were treated with salt from the Dead Sea. Within the first week, the symptoms of psoriasis were significantly less. Patients also noticed relief from itching. More than 50 percent of the patients in the study were completely healed, and 22 percent showed significant improvements. Psoriasis sufferers have been known to travel to the Dead Sea to gather some of the salt for themselves.
Rheumatologic Conditions
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis find relief in sea salts as the minerals stimulate blood circulation. The minerals in sea salt are absorbed when soaking in them during a bath. Dr. I Machtey conducted a study on patients suffering from osteoarthritis and tendinitis. Patients were treated with baths that contained controlled amounts of sea salt. At the end of the study, 80 percent of patients had less pain, 70 percent reported improved mobility and 60 percent were able to reduce the amount of pain relievers they were taking.
