One of the problems with hanging heavy objects on your walls is finding a stud to provide a sturdy spot for a screw or nail. There are now plenty of stud sensors to help find studs behind walls without resorting to tapping brad nails looking for a solid stud. The Zircon StudSensor ProSL finds metal and wood studs with accuracy, and using the device is quite simple and straightforward. The key is to work slowly and allow the sensor time to locate and indicate where there is a stud.
Instructions
1. Squeeze the sides of the Zircon Stud Sensor and pull off the belt clip. The battery compartment is below the belt clip on the sensor. Insert a 9-volt battery into the sensor. It will only go in one way. Press the belt clip back onto the sensor until it locks into place.
2. Press the "On/Off" button with your fingers and hold the sensor in the air. Place your free hand behind the sensor. The unit is working if the LED lights up on the face of the sensor when you place your hand behind it. Turn off the sensor.
3. Place the sensor flat against the wall. Press and hold the "On/Off" button. If you have the ProSL version, press the "On/Off" button twice and hold it in for the deep scan mode.
4. Slowly slide the sensor across the wall. The LED lights will begin to light up in red as you approach the edge of a stud.
5. Stop when the green LED light illuminates and the unit beeps. A pointing light shines at the top of the sensor. This is the edge of a stud. Use a pencil to mark on the wall where the edge is according to the pointing light.
6. Slowly continue moving in the same direction until the LED lights stop illuminating. Go back in the opposite direction until the green LED illuminates and the units beeps. This is the opposite edge of the stud.
