Natural Remedies For Hair Regrowth

It is highly unlikely that there is any miraculous panacea--despite claims to the contrary--that will instantaneously transform hair into Rapunzel-like abundance; however, there are techniques for hair regrowth that do not include expensive procedures or the ingestion of perhaps questionable drugs or concoctions. These natural remedies may boost your hair growth enough so that you are no longer worried about, and embarrassed by, thinning locks. These natural remedies will cost you very little and are readily accessible--you probably already have the ingredients in your home.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has long been used by natives of the Caribbean as well as Indians and Native Americans to prevent hair loss and to produce healthy hair. The gel-like substance inside the aloe vera plant is applied to the scalp. This balances pH levels and cleanses pores. Combine the aloe vera gel with coconut milk and wheat germ oil and use this as a shampoo to further enhance hair growth and health.

Saw Palmetto

The saw palmetto plant has properties in it that reportedly block the male hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which causes hair loss. If you can successfully block DHT, this will help battle hair loss and your focus can be on keeping the hair that you have rather than worrying about regrowing hair that you have lost. Ask your physician about saw palmetto. It is available in liquid extract, tea, capsules and tablets.

Potatoes

Make a potato mask and put it on your scalp and hair to encourage hair growth. Combine two potatoes, which have been peeled, washed and grated, with one egg yolk; 1 teaspoon vegetable oil; 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix together and then apply to your scalp. Leave the concoction on your head for about 30 minutes. Wash it out using shampoo and then rinse with vinegar.

White potatoes are a good source of B vitamins, which are essential for healthy hair. According to The Today Show (see Resources), if you are vitamin B deficient, this can cause your hair to break and shed and grow back slowly.

Massage

We know that a massage is beneficial to the body. It's also good for your scalp and hair. Massage promotes hair growth because blood circulation to the scalp improves when you massage your head, according to Regrow-hair.org. You can do it yourself or get someone else to give you a scalp massage.

Re-Think Your Diet

According to Regrow-hair.org, your diet may be preventing hair growth and encouraging hair loss. A balanced diet can make hair healthy and bountiful, unless there are mitigating factors such as alopecia (an auto-immune condition that causes hair loss) or genetics. Regrow-hair. org recommends eating vegetable and animal proteins such as soy, fish, wheat, nuts, milks, eggs, cheese and seeds to maintain a healthy head of hair. Hair is comprised almost solely of protein, so it is essential that you get sufficient protein in your diet.

Warnings

It is always advisable to talk to your physician before you venture into natural and/or home remedies. Your doctor can advise you if there is anything about the technique or the products being used that could prove harmful to you, based on your medical history and the medications that you are taking. Some natural products are contraindicated if an individual is taking certain kinds of medicines or has allergies or a disease.
