Stop A Teen From Smoking Pot

No parent wants to believe that their teen may be using drugs. The fact is that even the most careful parents can't always compete with peer pressure. Teens who are anxious to fit in with the popular crowd may end up smoking pot because their friends do it or they just want to experiment. If you suspect that your teen is using pot or may be tempted to do so, you need to take some important steps.

Instructions

Protecting Your Teen

1. The first thing you need to do is find out if your teen may already be using pot. You can start by simply asking him, but if you doubt that he is telling you the truth, you can discreetly order a home drug test kit online. It can take up to five weeks for marijuana to get out of the system, so it can easily be detected in the urine. While your teen is likely to balk at the idea of being drug tested by you, explain to him in a loving yet firm way that this is for his good. There is the very real possibility that he may refuse to take the test, but if you tell him that the only other option is taking him to the hospital to get tested, he is more likely to agree to taking the home drug test.

2. If you discover that your teen is using pot, alert his school about his drug use teachers and administrators can be on the lookout for any indicators that he is getting high before class or obtaining the drug from other students.

3. If your teen is not on pot, that doesn't mean that he isn't still vulnerable. Take safeguards, such as finding out who his friends are, who he is hanging around and where he is going. Do random searches of his bedroom, backpack and the like.

4. Encourage your teen to get involved in something positive, such as special groups, sports, band and other activities that can prevent him from being bored and susceptible to negative influences.

5. Lead by example. If you are abusing alcohol or smoking pot yourself, don't expect your teen to take you seriously when you lecture him about the evils of doing drugs.

6. Let your teen know that you are always available if he needs to talk. If you open the lines of communication, he will feel more comfortable with revealing that he is being pressured to smoke pot or has tried it. Yelling and scolding will make your teen less likely to share things.
