Prevent Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition in which the human spine is curved into a shape that resembles either the letter "C" or the letter "S." In some cases scoliosis is present from the time a person is born but in others it develops over time either due to muscular diseases or poor posture habits.

Instructions

1. Carry heavy book bags on both shoulders instead of only on one side of the body. If you can't wear your book bag on both shoulders, alternate the shoulder you use each time you pick up your bag. This applies to women and their purses as well.

2. Pay attention to your habits when you play sports. If you are a pitcher or tennis player, for example, you may frequently use only one side of your body. Make sure you exercise the other side of your body equally, even if you don't use the other side when you play formally.

3. Exercise regularly to strengthen the muscles and joints that support your spine. Consult a personal trainer if you need help developing a proper workout plan.

4. Eat a well-balanced and healthy diet that ensures your body will receive the proper amount of vitamins and minerals. Calcium is especially important to healthy bones and their resulting structure.
