The step machine simulates climbing an endless flight of stairs.
As a cardiovascular exercise machine designed to burn calories and unwanted fat, the step machine achieves the same effect of climbing flights of stairs. According to Healthy Weight Forum's Calorie Calculator, a 185-pound adult will burn 277 calories in a 30-minute step machine workout session. With a healthy diet plus physical exercise three times a week on the step machine, you will see noticeable differences in your energy level and weight.
Instructions
1. Step on the step machine and select the "Manual" program mode. This program allows you to adjust your speed on the machine so you can perform other activities such as drinking water and wiping your face without having to stop. Stopping will cause your heart rate to drop and lessen the workout's effectiveness.
2. Raise the step machine's resistance level. As you progress through your workout, you can increase speed and resistance to maximize weight loss in the same amount of time. Increasing the resistance will cause the machine to increase the slope, making you expend more energy and burn more calories.
3. Use light weights while you work. Ankle weights and a set of light dumbbells can increase the calories burned per minute with every step you take. Use them to perform overhead presses, bicep curls and other upper body exercises.
