Make A Bear Out Of A Sock

Reuse old and mismatched tube socks to make rice-filled teddy bears. This is an easy project, one suitable for children and adults of all ages. Once you learn the basic premise behind making a sock teddy bear, you can experiment with different designs, animals, fillings, fabrics and accessories.

Instructions

1. Fill three-quarters of a sock with rice.

2. Tie the top of the sock tightly with a rubber band, about an inch above the rice.

3. Cut the remaining top piece of the sock off.

4. Turn the sock upside-down so the top is sitting on your work surface.

5. Tie a rubber band tightly around the center of the sock, making the section from the toe to the rubber band slightly smaller. The smaller half will be your bear's head.

6. Use a hot glue gun to glue wiggly eyes on the bear's face.

7. Hot-glue a black pom-pom in the middle of the bear's face for his nose.

8. Cut a mouth shape out of brown felt, and hot-glue it under the bear's nose.

9. Cut two long ovals out of white felt, and hot-glue them to the bear's neck. These will be the arms.

10. Make the ears. Cut two circles out of white felt and two slightly smaller circles out of brown felt. Glue a brown circle in the middle of each white circle, and hot-glue them to the top of the bear's head.

11. Make the bear's feet. Cut two more circles out of white felt, slightly larger than the circles you made for the bear's ears; two ovals out of brown felt, about half the size of the circles; and eight tiny circles out of brown felt. Hot-glue a brown oval near the bottom of each white circle, hot-glue four tiny circles in a slight arch just above each of the brown ovals, then hot-glue each foot to the front of the bear's stomach.
