Though it may seem odd, exercise can cause rectal bleeding and pain, especially intense exercise. Physicians say exercise can cause rectal bleeding in healthy individuals because the exertion can cause microtears in the walls of the gastrointestinal tract. Even though the tears are small, the cumulative effect of them can cause a noticeable amount of blood to appear in the toilet or on tissue paper after wiping.
Instructions
1. Bathe or shower after exercising and make sure to cleanse the affected area.
2. Making sure to follow the directions, use Preparation-H or other rectal cream or suppository to soothe any irritation and stave off bleeding.
3. If pain or bleeding persists, apply an ice pack to the affected area to soothe pain and decrease swelling.
4. Make sure to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water throughout the day. This will help keep the body hydrated and prevent constipation. Straining during bowel movements will irritate microtears and could lead to bleeding.
5. Increase fiber in the diet by eating fiber-filled foods like prunes or add a fiber supplement to your diet in order to avoid constipation and make bowel movements easier, which makes bleeding less likely.
