Treat The Lower Back With Lomi Lomi Massage

Treat the Lower Back With Lomi Lomi Massage

Lomi Lomi, or loving hands massage is a form of Hawaiian body work using continuous gentle strokes along the length of the body. Thought to soothe the mind, heal the body and balance energy, Lomi Lomi is a unique form of massage. While there are an infinite number of approaches to Lomi Lomi, a few tips can give you an idea how this form of therapy works the lower back.

Instructions

1. Begin with your client face down on your massage table. Traditional Lomi Lomi massage is practiced without body draping; however, as a practitioner your client's comfort should be key. Provide draping for your massage in case they are not comfortable nude.

2. Apply oil or lotion to both your client's lower back and your forearms, as this form of massage requires long, smooth, flowing motion. As you prepare to begin the massage, remember to protect your own body. Keep your feet about shoulder width apart with your dominant leg slightly behind the other. Lean into your client's back with your lower body, using your weight as much as your arms.

3. Lean forward into your client's back allowing the length of your forearms to press into the muscles. Make sure that as you are moving your arms around the body, you do not pass your forearm over the spine. Spread your forearms away from each other to stretch the spine, move them back and forth in scissor movements to work the muscles along the spine or work in large circles to massage the large superficial muscles of the lower back.

4. Keep your movements smooth and continuous during Lomi Lomi massage, trying to avoid stopping or lifting your arms up off of the body.
