Beat Anxiety Naturally

Stressed out.

There are a variety of things that can cause anxiety, such as trauma or hormonal imbalances. Whatever the cause of your anxiety, it can seem overwhelming at times. With a few simple techniques you can reduce or eliminate your symptoms naturally.

Instructions

1. Try exercising. Exercise is good for the body and the mind; it can lower your blood pressure and help you feel more relaxed. Yoga is especially beneficial, since it involves stretching, breathing, and meditation. You can buy or rent a yoga DVD or take a class in your area.

2. Eating lots of fruits, vegetables, and fiber allows your body to function at its best. Buy organic whenever possible and consider adding more blueberries, nuts, and green leafy vegetables to your diet. Avoid fatty and salty foods as they stress your body, making you feel tired and sluggish. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoking as much as possible, since these are only temporary fixes for anxiety.

3. Get 8 hours of sleep per night. Lack of sleep increases mental and physical stress. Going to bed and getting at up the same time every day will allow your body's internal clock to get into a rhythm, making it easier to sleep. Do not watch T.V. in bed; this causes the mind to become overstimulated, which makes it difficult to relax. Try to stop eating--and don't drink any caffeine or alcohol--at least 3 hours before going to bed, since all will disrupt your sleep.

4. Get out of the house and socialize with friends. Having someone to talk to in order to get things off your mind can help alleviate anxiety. Laughing and taking a break from things that may be causing anxiety in your life is also healthy.

5. Learn a new skill or hobby. Look for something you have a real interest in or passion for so it will be fun and relaxing. The internet offers many online courses, and your local craft stores usually offer art and scrapbooking classes.

6. Consider therapy. Sometimes talking to a professional can reduce stress and anxiety in your life. Look for a licensed therapist who specializes in the area that may be causing you the anxiety. If you're unsure about the reason, ask a therapist for an evaluation to help guide you in the right direction.
